September 5, 2014 - 12:00pm to September 7, 2014 - 5:00pm
Chicago, IL

Join Council on American-Islamic Relations-Chicago Staff Attorney Rabya Khan, EFF Activist Nadia Kayyali, and EFF Technology Operations Director Mark Burdett for a workshop on surveillance self-defense and data security. The workshop will take place on Sunday from 12:30-1:45.

Legal workers and lawyers handle extremely sensitive information on a regular basis, whether doing policy work, activism, criminal defense, legal support for protestors, or other legal work. Lawyers are also legally and ethically responsible for protecting attorney-client information. Fear about surveillance and insecure communications chills organizing and legal support. This workshop will provide a framework of these issues and practical skills to address them. We will cover specific technologies such as email encryption, secure text messaging, and password managers to provide concrete skills participants can use in their own work.

Nadia and Mark will also be available on Friday afternoon in the tabling area to provide hands-on help for laptops and mobile devices.

The convention is not free, but registration is sliding scale and available on-site. CLE credit for the workshop will be available.
