We can and should implement accessible easier-to-use voting technologies without sacrificing election integrity. In September 2005 EFF successfully helped defeat a lawsuit to force Volusia County Florida to purchase paperless e-voting machines before the subsequent October election. Among other arguments in its legal brief EFF suggested that the County should be given the chance to acquire voting technology that creates an auditable paper trail as well as provides accessibility features for a wider range of disabled voters. Handicapped Adults of Volusia County (HAVOC) joined EFF's brief.
