A local organization in the Electronic Frontier Alliance (not EFF) will host this event:

Cypurr Sessions: On The Internet, No One Knows You're a Dog

The Internet gives us the ability to be anonymous and conceal our identities, at a cost to transparency. For decades people have taken advantage of this fact to launch elaborate scams over telephone, email, and social media. These tactics normally are deployed to gain money, information, or simply harass people. This workshop will focus on tips to spot potential scammers and skills to keep your data, funds, and sanity secure.

The CyPurr Collective is a group of tech-minded folks who are very jazzed about cybersecurity, cats, and helping folks out with their digital dilemmas. They offer workshops for activists, journalists, educators, and everyday folks who want to up their encryption game!

When:
Saturday, January 5
2:00pm - 4:00pm

Where:
Brooklyn Public Library
