November 8, 2022 - 5:00pm to 7:00pm PST
Austin, TX

EFF-Austin, a local organization in the Electronic Frontier Alliance, (not EFF) will host this event:

Musk, Meta, and the Future of Online Speech

From the Organizers:

Between SESTA/FOSTA, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals upholding Texas' HB 20 in Netchoice v. Paxton, and the Supreme Court deciding Gozalez v. Google this term, Section 230 seems as distant as that small town in your rearview driving through west Texas. Please join EFF-Austin and Attorney Shane Rusing for a discussion on all things Section 230 and online speech. We’ll cover the latest in state and federal legislation as well as the implications of Musk’s Twitter bid. Lastly, we’ll touch on decentralized protocols and some of the technological solutions that hope to alleviate the stranglehold “big tech” has over internet users.

This event will be followed by drinks and camaraderie from 9:00PM-10:00PM in the Omni Hotel lobby.
