February Privacy Lab—Advanced Tracking Techniques

Advanced browser tracking techniques have developed over the last decade that allow remote sites to leverage the increasingly feature-rich web to track users without their knowledge or consent. Not only are distinct visits across sites logged via techniques such as browser fingerprinting, sites that handle our most intimate details are monitoring our behavior on pages and handing that information to third parties with little to no oversight. This will cover some of those advanced techniques that have emerged, and how to protect yourself against pervasive web tracking.

Speaker: EFF's Bill Budington

Bill is a long time activist, programmer, and cryptography enthusiast. He works on EFF's Tech Projects team as a security engineer and technologist, and is the lead developer for HTTPS Everywhere and Panopticlick. He has also contributed to projects such as Let's Encrypt and SecureDrop.
