EFF is contributing evidence to a public hearing of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) this Monday, October 28th.
The hearing will be the first examination under international human rights law against the United States National Security Agency (NSA) mass surveillance programs.
The ACLU will be arguing to the Commission that NSA mass surveillance programs violate the fundamental human rights of both U.S. residents and those spied upon in the rest of the world. EFF and a coalition of international organizations throughout the Americas Region ranging from Canada to Argentina have submitted written evidence highlighting the impact of the program on citizens around the world. EFF International Rights Director, Katitza Rodriguez, will be attending the hearing.
Based in Washington D.C., IACHR is an independent international human rights body of the Organization of American States (OAS). It has the power to refer cases of human rights violations to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, whose jurisdiction is recognized by twenty American nations.
