Electronic Frontiers Georgia (EFGA), a local organization in the Electronic Frontier Alliance, (not EFF) will host this event:

An Alphabet Soup of Privacy Legislation

From the Organizers:

Congress is working on a half-dozen privacy bills, most of them with confusing acronyms like ADPPA, CTOPPA, COPRA, HLDPA, My Body My Data, and The Fourth Amendment Is Not For Sale Act. EFF currently supports The Fourth Amendment Is Not For Sale Act, which prohibits data brokers from selling data to government agencies without a warrant; and My Body My Data, which protects reproductive health information. By contrast, EFF's current position on ADPPA is "Americans Deserve More." We'll look at how effectively the different bills do or don't protect our privacy, and why it's so important for federal legislation to be the floor not a ceiling so that states can pass stronger privacy protections. We'll also discuss how you can get involved to increase the chances that strong bills pass — and weaker ones don't.

Jon Pincus is a software architect and entrepreneur from Washington state who has been involved with privacy activism for over two decades. His current project is The Nexus of Privacy newsletter. https://privacy.thenexus.today

Maya Morales is an organizer, artist, and educator who helped pass a face recognition and predictive policing software ban in their city in 2021 via ballot initiative. She then dove into state legislative data privacy and anti-surveillance advocacy after Jon reached out and said, "Hey! Let's organize together!" Maya has been working on founding WA People's Privacy (as well as a national "People's Privacy" entity) and looking to get this community-based work funded, with sights on education campaigns that can feed into people's ballot initiatives. They hold undergrad degrees in feminist studies and art, and a master's degree in teaching.
