Assignment to sue for copyright not enough for standing - appeals court

The cases addressed by the appeals court today represent only two of the more than 200 lawsuits filed since 2010 by Righthaven against alleged copyright infringers, the Electronic Frontier Foundation's Opsahl said.

While a number of the defendants settled, Opsahl said, Righthaven has never been successful on those that did proceed to court. Previous appeals filed by Righthaven were dropped, he said.
