Katitza Rodriguez, Policy Director for Global Privacy for EFF, speaks on a panel on the UN Ad Hoc Committee's negotiation process for a new cybercrime treaty.

A UN Ad Hoc committee has begun negotiations to draft a cybercrime treaty that has the potential to expand substantial criminal provisions and law enforcement surveillance powers. In this private strategic community lab session, participants will map and identify priority topics for each NGO and strategize and plan courses of actions needed to engage with the Ad Hoc Committee on these focus areas. Participants will share knowledge about garnering UN accreditation status to attend meetings, and develop mechanisms for accessing and sharing documents, and submitting written opinions and recommendations. NGOs will discuss their capacity to react to and challenge barriers to meaningful civil society participation, and identify additional partners and entities with whom they can form a robust bloc dedicated to the inclusion of human rights safeguards in the proposed treaty.
