EFF Sessions

Black Hat Arsenal Session: Certbot
Palm Foyer, Level 3, Station 3, 14:00 - 15:50
EFF Staff Technologist Brad Warren
Earlier this year, EFF unveiled Certbot, a free and open source tool which can be used to set up HTTPS on a webserver in the matter of seconds. Certbot communicates to the Let's Encrypt CA through a protocol called ACME allowing for automated domain validation and certificate issuance. In this session, I plan to show how easy it is to use Certbot to enable HTTPS with certificates from Let's Encrypt as well as answer any questions you may have about the project.

NTIS Vulnerability Meeting
Banyan F, Thursday, August 4 at 1 pm to 2 pm
EFF will host a meeting between the Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration and security researchers to discuss vulnerability disclosure.

When Governments Attack: State Sponsored Malware Attacks Against Activists, Lawyers, and Journalists
Mandalay Bay EF, Thursday, August 4 at 3:50 pm to 4:40 pm
EFF Global Policy Analyst Eva Galperin
EFF Staff Technologist Cooper Quintin
Activists, lawyers and journalists are, for the most part, completely unprepared to deal with cyber-attacks; most of them don't even have a single security professional on staff. In this session Eva Galperin and Cooper Quintin of the Electronic Frontier Foundation will discuss the technical and operational details of malware campaigns against activists, journalists, and lawyers around the world, including EFF. They will also present brand new research about a threat actor targeting lawyers and activists in Europe and the Post-Soviet States. With targeted malware campaigns, governments have a powerful tool to suppress and silence dissent. As security professionals we are in a unique position to help in this fight.
