Get Out Your Webcams and Speak Out Against Telecom Immunity

Congress returns to Washington DC this week, and with them returns the battle over telecom immunity. Recall that on the eve of a key vote in December 2007, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid delayed action on the surveillance bill until January, giving Senators additional time to hear from their constituents.

Our friends at People for the American Way (PFAW) have engaged activists to reach Congress in a new way -- through web video. The plan for webcam-savvy activists? Record a short video (less than 60 seconds long), telling your member of Congress why they should say no to telecom immunity.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers may hold a telecom immunity hearing before the end of the month -- one goal of the campaign is to give Rep. Conyers activist video testimonials that may be useful in that hearing, or any upcoming hearings related to telecom immunity. In addition to making the videos available to Rep. Conyers, PFAW is seeking to compile and deliver them to Senators prior to the upcoming vote.

For additional details, visit PFAW's action page for the campaign "Another Chance to Say No Immunity for Illegal Spying". (And to find the names of your Senators and Representative, check out OpenCongress' zip code lookup tool.)
