January 28, 2009 (All day)

On Wednesday, January 28th at 7:00 PM in Palo Alto, CA, EFF Civil Liberties Director Jennifer Granick will talk publicly for the first time about MBTA v. Anderson. This is the Boston Subway's lawsuit that sought to stop three MIT students from giving their Defcon talk about security problems with the transit system's fare payment technology. EFF successfully defended the students First Amendment rights and the MBTA dismissed the case.

The event is co-hosted by the local MIT alumni association and the IEEE. At the talk, you will learn how this case is one example of large companies misusing computer crime laws to squelch research and innovation, and what the Electronic Frontier Foundation is doing to protect your rights.
