Tough Nuts: Twitter Suspends Meme-Sharing Planters Accounts

Peanut fans were devastated last month when the brand Planters killed off their famous mascot in an advertisement, but had cause to celebrate when the company announced the birth of adorable Baby Nut, a new mascot, during the Superbowl.

In the runup to the big game, Planters reserved several Twitter accounts to share Baby Nut memes, even consulting with the platform. The company was therefore quite surprised when the platform shut down the accounts without warning.

Twitter hasn’t commented publicly on the reason behind the suspensions, but the cause may be their “platform manipulation policy,” which prohibits activities including creating multiple accounts to post duplicate content as well as “mutually interact accounts” that are created to inflate other tweets or accounts.
