Katitza Rodriguez, Policy Director for Global Privacy at EFF, speaks on a panel on surveillance and privacy rights in extended reality and virtual world games.

As extended reality and virtual world games are becoming more prevalent, we need to critically examine the privacy shortcomings of the industry’s sometimes walled-garden infrastructure. The current and future policies of the metaverse will continue to have real-world implications for human rights. Building on our community lab last year, this World Café style session invites experts in human rights advocacy, extended reality and/or the game industry to collaboratively map privacy issues and potential advocacy strategies from a variety of perspectives. After the event, participants will retain access to shared notes and be encouraged to collaborate.

Please note: In order to ensure a more interactive, hands-on discussion, there is a cap of 60 participants on this community lab, which will be filled on a first-come, first served basis. The link to enter the waiting room for the session will be made available 5 minutes before the start time, and you will be notified by the technical moderator if you have been admitted. If all the seats are filled, no worries! There are plenty of other sessions and spaces in program for you to explore.
