Gennie directs the activism team at EFF. Her research and advocacy focus on consumer privacy and security, with an emphasis on third-party tracking, platform policy, secure messaging, and student privacy. She also works on content moderation and open access.
Prior to joining EFF, Gennie was a Henry Luce Scholar in Laos and Thailand, and earned a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Washington Information School while doing research in the School of Computer Science and Engineering's Security & Privacy Research Lab. While at the UW, she also co-founded and led a successful initiative for a university open access policy. Her previous research includes work on public internet access in Laos, technology education in Myanmar, zero-rating in Ghana, and state censorship in Thailand.
