Pasadena Privacy for All presents The Government is Tracking You: Automatic License Plate Readers and Data Sharing on our Streets, a digital webinar on February 15, 2021 @ 6pm PT. On December 21, the Los Angeles Times revealed that cities like Pasadena and Long Beach appear to have been sharing automated license plate reader information with federal immigration authorities and dozens of other federal and out-of-state law enforcement agencies--all after promising not to do so. Based on the work of Pasadena Privacy for All (a coalition of local civil rights and community organizations and activists), we learned that data gathered by these city governments and police departments is apparently being shared widely, without public disclosure, and in violation of the law.

Join us on February 15 at 6 pm to talk about ALPR (Automated License Plate Reader) technology and discuss these recent revelations that the Cities of Pasadena and Long Beach collected and shared individuals' sensitive license plate data with federal immigration authorities, other police departments, and agencies around the country. We'll discuss what was revealed, why it's important, and what we can do about it.

The event will feature Dave Maass (Director of Investigations at the Electronic Frontier Foundation) and Salvador Sarmiento (National Campaign Director at the National Day Laborer Organizing Network), and will be hosted by Pasadena's own Sharon Kyle, publisher of the LA Progressive.
