In celebration of our 18 years fighting for digital rights please join EFF at a special VIP event, beginning at 7 p.m at the DNA Lounge. The reception will feature a reading by DJ Spooky from his new book, Sound Unbound, which asks artists to report from the front lines on the role of sound and digital media in an information-based society. You will also have the chance to meet and mingle with DJ Spooky as well as EFF founders, board members, and other luminaries. The reception is a precursor to our birthday party, which begins at 8 p.m. DJ Spooky will be headlining the main event, supported by mashup party pioneers Bootie DJs A+D, copyfighter and Surya Dub DJ Kid Kameleon, and EFF’s own in-house DJs, Tones and Qubitsu. The ticket price of $100 includes admission to the main party. Wine and light hors d’oeuvres will be served. The first 40 people to RSVP will receive a free autographed copy of Sound Unbound. Attendance is by RSVP only. To RSVP, please visit http://secure.eff.org/happybirthday. Start: 20:00

On Wednesday, January 28th at 7:00 PM in Palo Alto, CA, EFF Civil Liberties Director Jennifer Granick will talk publicly for the first time about MBTA v. Anderson. This is the Boston Subway's lawsuit that sought to stop three MIT students from giving their Defcon talk about security problems with the transit system's fare payment technology. EFF successfully defended the students First Amendment rights and the MBTA dismissed the case. The event is co-hosted by the local MIT alumni association and the IEEE. At the talk, you will learn how this case is one example of large companies misusing computer crime laws to squelch research and innovation, and what the Electronic Frontier Foundation is doing to protect your rights. There is limited space. To attend, or for more information, click here. | ||
